Standards are established, maintained and reviewed quarterly with requirements for completion including minimum numbers of different implants placed, pre-test, post-test and surgical evaluations. Doctors successfully completing this program will be both competent and confident.
Once again the educational interest by Dr. Montoya shows another initiative and together with his colleague Dr. José Pedroza from San Juan, P.R., they travel to South America to the city of Montevideo in Uruguay in 1998. Together with 21 colleagues representing different “ibero-american” countries and Puerto Rico, they form the “Academia Iberoamericana de Implantologia Oral” (AIIO); a non-profit academy with the ideology of taking the education of the Oral Implant field to the Spanish speaking doctors through out the world via the internet globalization. (www.aiio.org). Dr. Montoya was the President of the “Academia Iberoamericana de Implantologia Oral” for the years 2001-2002. The course topics included an applied head and neck anatomy dissection course at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Science Campus, and anatomy Department. Certification training in Oral and Intravenous Sedation Techniques and Advanced life support. Soft tissue reconstruction and the importance of attached gingival. The inspiration for educational knowledge by Dr. Montoya took him to form the non-profit corporation Interactive Seminars Inc., which annually develops in P.R. a series of conferences at national and international level to educate the new generation of doctors in the Oral Implants field. Presently Dr. Montoya conducts clinical investigation studies in the field of oral implantology using morphogenic proteins that work as growth factors in bone to stimulate osseous formation in patients with bone deficiency for oral reconstruction. This investigation was developed together with his brother Dr. Martin Montoya Jr., who obtained his Doctorate Degree (Ph.D.) from the University of Virginia in 1980, in Biochemistry and Molecular Genetic Engineering. Dr. Martin Montoya Jr. is working for Harvard Medical School at the Children’s Hospital Boston on the Vascular Biology Program as researcher. These two colleagues presently conduct a scientific investigation with great possibilities for development in the field of oral medicine and dental implants.
